Retrofit Fluorescent Bulbs to LED Bulbs Easily

Just about any fluorescent bulb can be retrofitted to accept newer, more energy efficient LED bulbs instead.  Removing toxic mercury from the mix and need for special and costly disposal of fluorescent bulbs is goal number one.  Some of the most popular bulb replacement types include T8 and U-Bend shape fluorescent, both of which require ballasts.  Now with new LED technology the ballasts are no longer needed and the bulbs can be hard-wired direct to the incoming power lines.  With voltage ratings that self adjust, power requirements from 90 ~ 285 VAC are no problem.

It is hard to believe some ESCOs are still recommending old school fluorescent with electronic ballasts.  Not sure if there is an issue of lack of knowledge of the new LED technologies that exist or some other unknown reason.  LED U-Tube and Linear T8 retrofit bulb do not even require you to change the fixture out.  It is interesting to consider a job where the new LED bulbs are easier to install than a ballast and a large labor budget for the install can be eliminated from a job bid completely.  You can simply install them as the older fluorescent models begin to fail with a slow roll out.  With no new fixtures and no labor contracts the cost to integrate to the return on investment really makes "cents".

Who knew just a few years ago when LED bulbs were only found in standard household electronics that it would be come the forefront of the new lighting era of energy saving technologies.  I think we have finally found the true replacement for the incandescent light bulb!
